Hey Guys,

I have a problem, i have had zoas pop up in a few places in my reef, thought this wasnt a issue. However they are not in alot of areas and actually damaging my SPS, more through stopping the light.

Now my rock work is not smooth so cannot cut them off to frag etc. So if i try and remove them they pop and release brown liquid. is this dangerous to corals/fish!!?

Thanks!

problem is alot of Acros are right near by.... would this effect them?

Thanks alot, also for the warm welcome :), long time lurker.

No it shouldn't effect them at all. if you can get a sharp syringe and inject them its even less messy. some folks just use vinegar to inject aiptasia too.

Out of Curiosity, is scraping them off just not recommended? or dangerous?

no, its fine, some like green sand plays are pretty toxic, actually make some get a rash just touching them. Im not one of those. . IME most are ok. a sharpened screwdriver or chisel would work best, and you scrape the rock a bit.(algaes too).

Poisoning is just easier. I have a few that I "trim" regularly with the app x so they don't take over.

Ah okay, so the brown liquid isnt poison which will kill my fish?
No, its guts. It may contain some of the palytoxin, but carbon should take it out. I try to do just a little at a time out of pure paranoia. Haven't had issues.

Scraping the rock rather than the zoa/paly flesh wont tear up the flash as much. If your not running a carbon reactor you can put the bag of carbon right on the return pump and itll be more effective because of the higher flow through the carbon. You water will be a lil extra squeaky clean too.

Ah run carbon in a reactor anyway so that should be fine, ill start slowly working away at the main bits.

Thanks again for your help!

Hypodermic needle. hmm. I need to try that. I have a few massive paly's that when I put appX on them , they just wilt a bit, but dont die. they are invading some other spaces...

I have 2 kinds of the Green Palys. OY! and one set of light pinks.

Ok. I found my insulin needles. Aptasia x did not want to go up the needles. It had too many solids. Vinegar did work so I injected a few mushrooms and zoa's with that. Tried to needle a few aptasia too

It's fun right?

People tell me it does but I have never tried it on those.
