So I was bored last night and started snapping some pics of my 50 cube. I always see photos of pics taken from above the tank that look absolutely amazing. Now I have been on the market for a camera to capture pics of my tanks, but I haven't found one I really like yet. Anyway, the point is, last night it was just me and my old iPhone 3GS. As I was snapping pics of some zoas, I found myself not being able to get just the right angle I was looking for. I looked over the top of the tank and said to myself, "man I wish I had a viewer or an underwater lens". That being said, I thought it would be a good idea to dip just the camera part of my iPhone just slightly into the water column so I could achieve the over the top photos lol well, I'm posting this thread using the very same iPhone I used for the pics, so I'd say it was a success lol check it out!

The actual pics aren't the best obviously, but I wasn't expecting HD photos with this first gen iPhone. Not to mention its not meant to take underwater photos anyway lol I'm upgrading to the new iPhone soon but I'm thinking I won't try this with that one lol

Yes it is impressive what breaking the water surface with the lens will do. I have a life proof case and take most of my tank pics with my phone completely submerged in the water now.

Not to jack the thread but here is an example.

Ya I've seen those cases but my point was that I did it just by dipping the lens under water without a case lol not the smartest thing really but I had fun doing it! Nice photo by the way. What phone did you do this with?

Cool stuff. How do you take pics without being completely blue'd out from your LEDs? I'm going insane trying to fig out with iPhone/iPad/ and p&s camera. Thanks. B

This was in my 50 cube with a 20k radium. In my 90 I have the same problem with the blue if I'm using a camera phone. Reef photography is said to be one of the most challenging feats for even professional photographers. I know nothing about how to get a really nice pic lol check out the photography threads for some ideas

Actually pretty good photos for an i-phone. I'll bet you'll be getting a new phone sooner than you had planned. I have a lifeproof case, but still haven't tried that. I have an Eshopps Super Spy, which is pretty nice.

Hey that's a good idea. I'll have to try it.

Ya I'll prob get the newest iPhone soon but I think I'll get a GoPro for my tank pics. I figure it's the simplest camera for the job. All the other cameras like canon or Nikon with all the crazy settings is just too much lol a whole other hobby in itself...and reefing is already a full time job

You've got that right! I have a lot of things to take pictures of, but I'm photography challenged. Then there's fishing and gardening. I'm really trying hard to get better at photography. I used to be real good at photography, but that was before digital stuff. I still don't know how to play a video game.

Two other great cases I found and have been experimenting with.....

You are brave! I have the iphone5 so untill i get a lifeproof case this phone goes no where near the water!

Don't waste money on the life proof cases, get the bags or wraps then you can still use the macro/wide angle lens ;)
