Is 525 GPH overkill for a reef and salt water tank that’s 20 gallons?

What are the main elements or things I have to test and watch for in a reef/salt tank?

I currently have a 210 return pump and a 1020 power head in my 15 gal. What are you planning on stocking?

Hard corals require more flow than soft. I am finding it hard to get it just perfect because o have a mix of both...

Well I’m a lil new so maybe like

1 pistol shrimp and goby pair
1 clown fish pair
A leather toadstool
2 bumblebee snails
And a dwarf colored feather duster.
(20g long)

yes, only need to turnover 3-4x water volume, 525gph for a 20 gal is way too strong. Keep an eye on Salinity, Nitrate, Phosphate, Alk and Calc.

I thought there was no such thing as over filtration.

I was told 20 to 60 turns per hour.... so 15 gallon would be 300 to 900 gph.

I accidentally got a higher flow pump when I paid for a lower one in my tank and am surprised at how much my corals have colored up since I started putting more flow in....

More flow is good yes.
Slower flow through filtration isn't always bad though because the water stays in contact with said filtration longer.

Although the real answer depends on the size of the overflow/drain/return/nozzle.
