I want to cycle additional fish into my Quarantine Tank. There are currently 3 small fish in the 30 gallon tank and the tank is treated with CP. I want to put one or two more fish through the TTM and them add to the QT. I plan to move the first fish into my display after their 30 days have passed, and keep the newer fish for addition time so that they also spend 30 days in the CP treatment.

From what I read about the life cycle of velvet, there is no risk of introducing velvet because if the new fish is infected, it will be at the trophozoite stage, and these cannot jump over to the older fish. Whenever the velvet moved to the dinospore phase, the CP will kill them.

Is there anything wrong with my idea? I would like to use the fish QT to constantly be in use as I build up my display community.

If they are going into CP, I don’t think there is any real reason to do tank transfer as well? CP alone treats ich, velvet, brook, AND uronema.

I think instead, I would complete 14 days of CP with the first batch, and then transfer to one or both of the tanks you’d use for TTM for a 2-3 week observation period instead.

In my experience, CP can be difficult to keep fish eating for the entire 30 days. I was hard-pressed to keep my fish fed for 14 days...

I would not add new fish to fish already in qt. Do as suggested and finish 14 days of CP with current fish then transfer to a new, clean tank.

Then, sterilize the original qt and start the next batch.

No reason to do TTM if you are using CP.
