I have a 750va battery back up. When I have my EB8 plugged into it and everything in the tank is running it will overload the back up. All I want to be powered in case of an outage is my return pump. If I get an EB4 and only have my pump on it and only have the EB4 plugged into the back up, will it work? The apex base unit will still get power from the EB4 on the back up and the EB8 will be plugged directly into the wall so it shouldn't be pulling power from the back up to overload it right? The aquabus cable won't power the EB8?
I do have power monitor turned on and have a 12v power supply plugged into the base unit. All of my nonessential outlets are programmed as follow: if power apex off 000 then off

Why not just plug the return pump cable into the backup.

Because then it won't be controlled by the apex. And the apex won't get battery power to send me an alarm that the power is out. Kind of defeats the whole purpose.

I am also trying to avoid buying a bigger ups. I have a generator and only need the back up to last long enough to either figure out why the power is out or to get the generator running.

If the EB4 trick works then I also free up more outlets on my EB8 to do other things.

Thanks.

I just thought of this. I should be able to plug my pump and apex 12v supply into the ups and the EB8 directly to the wall. Then program an alert for when the EB8 loses power right? The pump is always on anyways, really doesn't need to be controlled by the apex.

This way I get the alert and can figure out what to do all while my pump keeps running.

And yes, all of the networking equipment is already on back up.

Yes, and you don't even need to buy an eb4 if you don't have one .... There are codes to detect if the eb8/eb4 is out of power or the 12V is not getting the power...more than 1 way to do this.

However, if you don't have the eb4 and the base is connected to the UPS while the EB8 is connected to the wall, when you cut the power or lost power... the apex base cannot control the eb8.....pump will be off!

I have the eb8 connected to an UPS port. My base is connected to the 12v ac adapter that is connected to the wall. I shut most of everything down when the 12v ac adapter is out of commission....

Thanks.

Got it working!! Power monitor is shut off but the 12v supply is still plugged into the base unit and my battery back up. My energy bar is plugged directly into the wall socket. Return pump is also on the battery back up. Email alert is set up as follows: if power eb8_3 off then on.

I tested it and unplugged my energy bar. Of course everything that was plugged into it shut off. Pump stayed on since it was on the battery back up. And I got an alert that the power to the energy bar is out.

Next step is to do an actual test of how long the battery will actually run my pump.
