Any issues with running a carbon reactor that is rated for a much bigger tank?

I have a 75 gallon tank with a carbon reactor that could do twice that easy.

No such thing as to much carbon right?

The amount of carbon, not the size of the reactor is what matters so long as you have enough room for your needs and it sounds as that will never be a problem.

Does that mean if I put to much carbon in the reactor its bad?

It would be a waste of carbon. Bacteria could build up on the carbon and clog the pores before the carbon gets a chance to be used to its max. I don't have the science to back that up but I believe BRS tv mentioned it. I would just use the recommended amount, and then when you change the water, use a white bucket to see if there is any tint. If there is a tint, then the carbon should be changed out

Well, that is a discussion for another thread. People have all sorts of opinions out there on that subject. Some say too much carbon use strips water of needed elements and others, myself included, believe that may not necessarily be true. I use mine to keep that water clear and that is all. Just enough is used and changed every two weeks to one month or so. I don't try and overthink things like this. So, IMHO, you can't use too much but the amount you use may be wasted product if it gets inundated with particulate matter before it has a chance to do the job you are looking for it to do.

One more question can you put that reactor right in the sump water? I did I was told its fine because its just a sealed tube. I know its meant to hang but I did not sea a reason it could not be placed right in the water like the pic above

1/2 cup of carbon per 50 gallon h20
I usually change it once a week. Carbon doesn’t last long.
