Hey! I’ve got a 40b I will be using for a display here pretty soon but instead of the normal stand I’d like to build it to about 48x24xH. Not sure on height yet.

I’d like the display to be peninsula style and use a granite counter top (if this is a good idea?) with enough room around the tank to maybe have breakfast with the kids or just... anything. An extra added benefit would be more space under the stand maybe for a 2nd 40b sump and room for reactors and controllers.

Is this possible with wood or would I need someone to fabricate me a stand with steel/alum ?

Thanks for any and all help!

Granite top should spread the weight to the vertical supports. Normally you would have to have the vertical legs directly under the corners of the tank.

So theoretically there’s no issue with building an oversized stand so as long as it’s got a rigid top?

As long as the granite top is supported correctly and it's level, you should be fine.

Sounds like a fantastic idea. Sump underneath? Might want a layer of plywood under the granite just to have an easy way to hang things from the 'ceiling'.

I built an oversized stand for my 112g. The main issue is making sure where the tank is is supported all of the way to the floor (which isn't a big deal to do). Framing with 2x4s would be fine
