So, im in an apartment now, and have a tiny pico. A spec v 5 gallon.
When I move into a house in about a year, ill want to upgrade to around 100 gallon probably. Is there any reason it would be ill advised to aquire and use a substantially oversized sump for a pico? What about any filtration equipment? Can a larger skimmer be regulated down with lower flow for a tiny tank? Etc...

I am currently running a Reef Octopus 152s which is rated for up to 200g on a 75g with no ill effects. Since it only removes dissolved organic compounds I cant see any way it could hurt your tank. It will def increase its oxygen levels :) The only downside I can see may be the large amount of microbubbles that it can produce in your DT.

Not really a problem. Increases your system volume which increases stability. I'm running my old reef octopus extreme xs200 on my 29 while I'm doing my 180 build.
