Just picking up some more test kits and noticed the salifert oxygen test kit, never hear about anyone using an oxygen test, are they pointless?

Wow, I honestly didn't know a test for dissolved oxygen existed.

That's not something that's usually needed. As long as you have adequate gas exchange in the tank, your O2 level is going to be ok.......i.e. if you're ok the tank is ok (you need as much O2 as the tank does) as the tank is in equalibrium with the surrounding air. CO2 is a different matter but your pH can give you some insight as to CO2 levels in the tank.

yeah they are not talked about much, I had one in my basket but removed it, might put it back in, I’m curious now.

Just going through what I think is a bacterial bloom, I read this can reduced the oxygen available, that’s what spiked my interest.

Usually you don't need a test when there's a bacterial bloom...they're pretty obvious and if the O2 is depleted you will know it from your fish, inverts and corals.

Pointless. If you are really interested in O2 get LaMotte:

thanks, I was willing to give the oxygen test a go for £7, for £50 I’ll give it a miss I think. o_O

I think it can be helpful in a newer tank. When I first set up my 90 gal, i had the usual blooms and used dr Tim’s. My fish died. I attributed it to the low O2. So the O2 testing may be a good idea in a newer tank.
