Hey guys, I've had this Thorny oyster for close to a year and suddenly its lower lip is retracting. It just started yesterday. Its been in a new spot for maybe 2 weeks but I put it back after seeing this. The new spot had less flow and a little more light. Will it survive?

I have never kept this but I have had luck keeping a flame scallop for over one year now. I feed my tank four times a day plus the phyto I cultured which I think is the only reason this guy is still alive. I don’t know if you target feed it but if not maybe try to get some phyto going and target feed it.

I culture phyto too! I do 20 ml once a day for my 200gallon. How do you spot feed and do you think its starving or something else is making it recede?

I just randomly suck some phyto and shoot out slowly a few inches away from it using a turkey baster. You can see the phyto drift towards it. I have no idea what might cause it to recede though. Yeah try to target feed and see if there are any improvements. Also check Alk stability etc. Hope it gets well soon!

You can make an umbrella out of plastic bottle and put on top of the oyster and pump phyto into it. Keep it cover until most if not all the photo are filter out.

Unfortunately the oyster died today not even 3 days after all of this started. RIP
