crazy question, I have a friend who catches oysters from the bay, I'm in Long Island. He asked me if I want a few for my tank, he said they are great cleaners. Can you you do this? Obviously I would have to put them in a quarantine tank, how would I do this? I would think I would have to treat them for diseases, I would really appreciate any opinions or advice on this. Thanks

Try it. I keep mussels and clams from the bay in my tank. Now that I have no sump my HOB is filled with mussels and barnacles. I don't quarantine if you want you can clean the shell with a toothbrush and peroxide or freshwater.

Being that these come from temperate waters, I don't think they'll last very long in a tropical tank either. Just as an example, sometimes Turbo snails don't last very long in our reef tanks because they were taken from much cooler waters as well. I don't see why it would be any different with these things. Providing them with food might be an issue as well. GL.
