Ozone help - Orange light on Ozotech Poseidon 200 series

Hi all, have used ozone before, both via an Avast waterfall style reactor and my current setup using the intake of a protein skimmer. The skimmer is purely for ozone, any nutrient export is secondary IMO. My refugium is the main nutrient export.

So it finally came time for my old unit to be switched out. When I hooked up the new unit, the power light was green at first, but after a minute or so it turns orange. The user manual (as far as I have found) does not explain this.

I am going to clean the skimmer pump now. Maybe that will help. Just changed the drying media, and as said above the unit is brand new entirely.

Good question. Mine is green when the system is running. Must indicate some sort of fault? Have you ever cleaned the Corona discharge “bulb”? Ozotech sells a kit where you flush it with RO water. And it had canned air to dry it. That’s the only thing I can think of...

Yeah my old unit was always green, until the day it just wasn’t on anymore. So I am doing maintenance on the old unit as well. But needed a second unit anyways. Just expected it to plug and play. I’ve tried all sorts of google searches, and one said “if the light is green/orange/red the unit is working fine”... which makes ZERO sense bc they clearly designed it to show something!!!

Your setup is slick btw, do you run your ozone through a skimmer or reactor? I hooked my skimmer up to recirculate air (similar to how people CO2 scrub) thinking that that would increase the ozone efficiency and also decrease the using up of the drying media.

I would agree. Any color other than green must mean something is wrong, otherwise, why bother engineering it to even change colors. One color would be good enough to indicate it was running.

I have not seen mine turn orange, so if you do figure something out, please post it in case someone else runs into it! I have cleaned mine out with the kit and you will see a brownish film come off when you clean, but I did that as maintenance, not to fix any problems.

Mine runs through my skimmer. I use the Milwaukee ORP controller to turn it on / off, so it just runs on auto pilot. I did set up a normally open solenoid valve (sitting on my air dryer) that closes when the unit is running. That way, when the unit is off, the skimmer still pulls air through the unit, but it will pull fresh air. And when the unit is running, the solenoid will close, and it will force the air to go through the dryer. Otherwise, it’s just a normal ozone generator. But I put on the solenoid to increase the life of the drying crystals. It seems to work well.

Knew your username was so familiar! Huge fan of your build, following the thread. So having read that you now know your skimmer airflow rate, will you make adjustments to your ozone settings?? Try to optimize the dose so to speak??

Lastly, do you know if the green light would be off if the corona discharge burns out? I hate having a piece of tech that doesn’t self diagnose. Generational flaw or just spoiled maybe? Hmmm.

I actually run a solenoid in mine too, same idea. The automatic driers sound great, and I am a huge fan of one fewer moving part (reef grade solenoids being notorious for failure) but dang are they expensive. I just hate spending time on maintenance. I’m very much a KISS and monitor type. Erg.
