I am toying with the idea of introducing Ozone into my tank. I would like to benefit from the clarity of the water. My tank is peninsula style and it seperates rooms so I find you are often looking through the tank which makes clear water even more important.

My plan is to get a cheap 5-50mg ozone generator and run it for 2 hours every night. I will control it with my apex. The tank is a 175 gallon with a 75 gallon sump. I will only dose the amount needed to make the water clear so I will start low and slowly build up the dose until I get the results I want. The sump is in the basement which is drafty to say the least. I plan to run the generator at night when everyone is sleeping to hopefully avoid breathing the junk in.

I am not sure how to go about distrubting the dose. My first thought is to dose it directly into my skimmer and that would be that. My skimmer is a SRO 3000sss. I don’t like the idea of possibly shortening the life of the skimmer from ozone break down. Will I notice break down of the skimmer with a low dose? Are the components of the SRO skimmer potential for breaking down? Would I be better off making some sort of reactor for the ozone?

I'm not familiar with your skimmer but usually a skimmer will say if it's ozone safe or not. I've had one ware down from ozone really quick but it was new so warranty covered it, and the replacement wasn't an issue.

I read somewhere can't remember where but that it was better to use a constant low level than to use a controller and intermittent I think it was actually from deltec i read it. So that's what I did when I ran it.

That's my only experience connected to skimmer so can't help you more with your decision between the two, but for what it's worth I don't use ozone anymore, I use uv sterilizer and carbon. Keeps water clean and clear enough for me with less hassle.
