Hey everyone. So I'm running ozone on a 450 gallon tank, 60 gallon sump and I'm trying to figure out if I can skip carbon on the output from my ozone reactor. I'm using the reef octopus ozone reactor that empties into a chamber with my hammerhead main return and the return from my regal ext 300 skimmer. Considering I'm running carbon on the reactor air, and the reactive churning environment in the chamber with all the returns, maybe I can skip carbon for the reactor return? After the return chamber there is a big chaeto section and a section for the main return. I'd like to avoid carbon if possible due to possible links to HLLE. Trying for some big tangs and angels. Is the ozone smell a sufficient indicator of ozone escaping into your home?

You should not smell ozone. If you do then you need to filter it better through carbon or reduce the amount created.

Its not really the ozone in the water you are trying to filter out with the GAC but the byproducts and yes you should.

I would suggest this three part article to read through.
