I was wondering what everyone is doing with ozone? How are you keeping excess Ozone from spilling into your living room? I use carbon on top of my skimmer and still smell it once in a while.

From my understanding Ozone is good in small quantity in rooms but without measuring the ozone being discharged its total guess work knowing your levels. However Ozone does not last more than 45 minutes in air from what i have read. Anyone out there have Ozone detector? If so any recommendation and is this even necessary?

Are people running Ozone only at night? anyone venting the excess to outside via ducting?

These are all thoughts ruining through my head of what I want to do in one form or another. Let me know what you are doing to ensure you stay safe when using Ozone.

I run an Ozone reactor from Avast Marine. It's a dedicated flow through reactor and it filters through a carbon bed before going into the tank. Since it's a closed system, I've never smelt even a trace of Ozone while it's been running. Seems like it's the safest and most effecient method.

I don’t use a ozone air detector. My unit runs through a reactor and is in my basement fish room. I have never noticed the smell of ozone. I also vent out my basement not so much for ozone but humidity control.

when it comes to monitoring ozone concentrations in the water I love the water Exact iDip tester which has an ozone test available. It ensure that no ozone reaches the tank water in the effluent and I can also check that the correct amount of ozone is coming out of the generator.

some really great suggestions here... I totally forgot about avast marines reactor. I own thier kalk mixer and they are awesome.

I have a follow up... Isnt the idea of injecting ozone into a skimmer so that it can bind with organics and be remover through enhanced skimming due to the O3 gas? I understand the in the O3 reactor this excange or bonding to organics also occurs but how is it removed? is the water mixed with with O3 run through the carbon media part of the reactor or is carbon filtering only the O3 GAS out of the air? reason I ask is that I have used upflow carbon reactors befor but they get clogged often when water runs through it.

Ozone doesn't bind/remove organics, instead it breaks them down and rips them up. The O3 reactor uses a Venturi to inject the ozone and mix it thoroughly with the tank water. The carbon in the outflow is primarily for removing any unreacted ozone but I assume it also helps absorb some of the products left over from the ozone reaction.
