Hi Reefers,

I have thought about running Ozone on my Cade 1500 reef tank since long before I bought it. It has been here now for half a year and I am ready!

Now, the ozone system i can sort out no bother- but everyone says to leave a bag of carbon on top of your skimmer.

I have a neck cleaner on top of my skimmer, leaving no room for carbon. There are small holes in the lid for the cup between the cup and skimmer.

I have carbon on top of my skimmate collector in the cabinet.

Any suggestions? :D

Now, if I ditch my neck cleaner, then no problem - but I don’t want to

Okay, I have had a thought! What if I plug the small holes in the lid of the skimmer collection cup? Then all air and left over ozone would make its way to the waste collector which has a bag of carbon on the top? Interesting indeed!

Thoughts? :-)

A lot depends on your ozone production / utilization rate. It is possible to produce less ozone than there is demand for, and then little or no unreacted ozone will degas. If you can smell ozone though, you should try to run it through carbon before venting into the room.

After leaving the skimmer (.. which is now sealed air tight!) any air and possibly leftover ozone will travel though the drain of the skimmer cup and into this waste collector which has the vent on top full of carbon :-)
