ok so am just starting n ozone generator
it's a small one and is only 100mg
i have about 160gal total water
unfortunly i dont have an orp probe yet but am going to get one
so question is....
if i run it for only like 4 hours a day think that would be ok????
let me know thoughts
thanks

4 hours should be fine, but cut it down if you can, with Ozone less is more, a little can go a long way. I don't run my Ozone with an ORP probe, I run it for about an hour each day and my water is crystal clear.

I have a Weipro unit, I draw it in through my Curve 5 skimmer which is supposedly Ozone Safe. I also use an air dryer, they are said to increase ozone performance significantly. You can DIY a dryer pretty easily, or you can buy one.

Be careful running ozone with no probe to monitor. Like Anakinreefwalker said, a little goes a long way. Using a probe and auto on/off is the best way to use it.

If your nutrient load is low, don't run it long each day. If nutrient load is high you can run it longer. You will know if it has run too long because you will smell ozone in the air around the tank...it's a very distinct smell. Free ozone in the air is not good.

I never ran my arc tube ozonizer without a dryer, although some models can be if they use other methods to generate the ozone. Air that is not really dry ruins them pretty quick.

I stopped using ozone 10 years ago by improving my husbandry techniques. Found it wasn't necessary, but it sure did produce crystal clear water.

ok thanks
i can't put a dryer on this unit as in doesnt have an intake
thought about takeing it apart n looking if could change it so can...

yea ik on the smell......
pluged it in before hooking up the lines and could smell it in whole room...

Also, use ozone proof line to the skimmer or reaction chamber. It eats through regular airline pretty fast.

I ran 25mg ozone per hour on a 100 gal reef with 25 gallon sump. I used an Albert Thiel ozone proof reaction chamber and the exit went through carbon before going back to the sump. That kept my redox at my setpoint of 400 with occasional jumps to 435+. I ended up lowering it to 375. Some corals reacted to it being at 400 or above. ORP numbers are pretty subjective though so my 400 might have been 350 or 450.

It doesn't say how it generates the ozone, but to be honest, that doesn't look like something that would hold up long term. For $17 it's probably a simple UVC bulb or arc tube that won't put out the rated amount for very long.

ok..
fig i'd give it a try....
fig if to much of a pita id not be out too much..

I have a full brand new Ozone setup for sale if interested

I have a 450 Gallon SPS system with about 30 fish and only run mine 4 hours a day. One hour at a time.

I have a 210 gallon net and run 60mg/h non stop. Star polyps close a little after like 6 hours. Open up fully when off for 6 hours.
