Does anyone know a distributor or contact for attaining Indo-Pacific seagrasses? I am trying to plan a biotope around a bommie reef surrounded by a seagrass bed and want to make sure there is availability out there. I have done some searching and haven't come up with much yet.

Yeah, thats a lot of what I am seeing. Anyone know why only Caribbean grasses for sale and not the Indo-Pacific?

Assuming you are in the US, because Florida seagrass is can be sent cheap quick compared to even, say Phillipine seagrass, and can easily collected for the very small demand.

I would imagine our Australian reefing friends can only buy Australian seagrass.... :)

Yes, I am in the U.S. and what you say makes a lot of sense. But unless the shipping of seagrass almost certainly ensures its demise, I would think we wouldn't have a problem with the Pacific collectors and distributors sending them to the U.S. We certainly get most our corals from the Indo-pacific. Maybe there is little demand for it, in which case I can understand. I'm hoping I can find some sort of supplier from that region.

If you ever place a wholesale order, you’d see that many expensive fish and corals can be purchased for a few dollars. Then you pay the several hundred dollar air freight bill to LAX. Then you pay several hundred dollars for CITES permits. Then you pay the box charge and possibly a second air freight bill to local airport. Suddenly an $8 fish has cost ten times that. It’s just not worth the compounded expense for something like sea grass.

Okay, that makes sense. Do you think a few seagrass plants are something an LFS could get a hold of when placing their normal wholesale order?

Probably not.

I’d happily send you some Atlantic seagrass for just shipping costs. I was just out today and there’s large beds that are easily accessible at low tide.

Thanks for the offer Jefra. I don't have a tank up and running currently or I may have taken you up on it. I just wish there was a way to have some Indo-pacific grasses sent over here. I may have to try and track someone down on here that lives over there. If it was th ereal deal, once I get my tank up and running I would pay well (as would be expected) to have it shipped back to the U.S. (Ohio) quickly.
