I want to paint the back and two sides of my quarantine tank. Should I spray or brush on? What black paint do you recommend?

Home Depot no-name flat black for $0.98 a spray can. It's actually manufactured by a major paint manufacturer and is quality paint. I buy it by the case because I have a ton of faux cast iron furniture (actually made of aluminum), around my pool that needs painting/touch up with frequency. I painted my tank over ten years ago with this stuff and it still looks great.

I didn’t take a picture of the painted side but if it’s going to be exposed spray on would give you a smoother finish.. here is a pic from the front, new tank cycling with no lighting except light from the room and a 15w par38 but gives you a idea..

I also used Rustoleum Enamel with a roller.

It took several coats to completely cover

I’ve used both methods, and both do fine. I do prefer spray over the other it will appear more smooth and glass like. I rolled the side of my 90 corner flow to hide the overflow compartment and I ended up scraping it off and using spray. Did it in the house too. Built a plastic tent to contain overspray. Just a better finished look IMO

Dead Thread Revival! How do you all go about painting along the rim? On my 40 B you can see where the paint stops, was wondering if anyone had a fix for it without it getting sloppy.

i painted my QT tank with plastidip, it came out very nice after a few coats but using an mag scrapper is a PITA, i'll try normal paint on my new 40 breeder build. also interested in an answer to Crabs question

What color? If black, the inside of all trim I've seen has been black. Has never been a issue with me.

Or are you saying that you used a roller and can't get paint under the lip of the plastic trim? If so, use a brush to get under there.

This exactly. Where the paint ends you can see from the inside aquarium, didn't know if someone had a solution for it or not :)
