So bit of background.

Had a bit of a devastating summer. Somehow Marine Velvet got into my main tank, how doesn’t matter. Anyway had to tear it apart to catch and qt all fish.

Lost quite a few but managed to save some.

Those guys were in qt in the basement sump room for a couple of months, soon to go back into the main tank. Then out of nowhere my Flame Angel then, Six Line Wrasse and Pygmy Angel all died. Tearing my hair out to figure out why and then it hit me.

We recently had an unrelated flood in the basement and it was just repainted in it’s entirety. D’oh! Of course humidity was up, basement with minimal ventilation , sump and qt tanks. pH in sump spiked too but nothing too much.

Oh well, lesson learned and shared. Hopefully others will learn from my mistake. Make sure you ventilate if you’re going to paint! In my case my qt is a Biocube, pretty sealed up but low flow. It was in my furnace room with the sump and the whole 1000sq ft basement was painted.

Sorry for your losses.. we need to paint but I have been waiting until fall so I can open windows and use fans to pull air (and fumes) out of house. Thanks for sharing, maybe it will save someone else’s system.

No problem. Yes it sucks but if I can spare someone else the aggravation it’s worth it.

Surprised it took me so long to clue in....live and learn

I’m itching to put the fish back in the main tank, patience Grasshopper, patience...haha
