If I were weld up a rim from aluminum angle, what paint should I use on it?

I don't want to powder coat because no one near me has an oven big enough.

I was thinking several coats of krylon fusion and then clear coat would work.

Suggestions?

That'll probably work just fine. Id consider giving it a light sanding first just to give the paint something to grip to.

Yeah, I have painted aluminum before but not for this use. Even though they say it has primer built it, I sand and prime before painting.

Thanks!

typically your first coat should be an etch primer

Catalyzed epoxy primer is the way to go. I don't like self etching unless I am going over galvanized.

what is a "catalyzed" epoxy primer? & how well does it adhere to aluminium?
It is an industrial/automotive product. I use it on "coach built" aluminum cars as a first product. It bites really well without the possible problems from an etch primer. A lot of today's coatings will not attach to etch primers, hence my advise to only use if using a full system.
