should i paint the back of my display tank or should i use a stick on method instead?

Paint. I hate the stick on methods. I never could get the bubbles out and they come off over time. Paint looks a lot smoother to me too.

i would also recomend paint the stick on stuff tends to get airbubbles in it and looks like junk

I have almost always gone with paint however I did go with the stick on nylon this time around. No bubbles and has been on with no issues for two years now

I use fabric. Bright colors, if it does get dirty i can just wash it. I can also change the colors when the mood strikes. You can usually find a suitable color on one of the cheap fabric tables. It also wont scratch or tear.

Latex roll on paint is my preferred method, but I would probably say Krylon Fusion spray paint is the most popular method overall. Vinyl works good also if applied correctly. I have seen a few people use cloth/velcro as well and that is also a good method. The stick on / tape on ones you get at big box stores are the worst though. Even if you get it looking perfect, first drop of water that gets between it and the glass ruins it and once the tank it up and running it is usually not a quick or easy maintenance job.
