Hey all,

I’m looking to paint the bottom of my new tank. I enjoy doing bare bottom tanks.

So I use Aqueon tanks. Very budget friendly and I haven’t had any issues with them. The problem is - painting the bottom of those tanks (on the outside) doesn’t make a difference in the way it looks. I think I might be either the thickness of it or my lights (Radion Pro). But it is still very much reflective and you don’t see it. My fish don’t see it either as they still sometimes peck at their reflection on the bottom.

I was thinking of using reef safe paint and do a coat on the INSIDE of the tank. Any suggestions or experience with this?

I suggest putting down some starboard plastic. It comes in both black and white, and is cheap and reef safe. It will also provide protection for the bottom of the tank in case of a rockslide. I hope that this helps!
+1 on this as well. Done it in a couple of tanks before with nice results. The problem with painting the bottom too is that the refraction of light through the glass is going to make it difficult to see your painted bottom which is probably why you didn't see it very well the first time painting the outside. Always like the grown in option too with corals if you have the time and patience for it to fill in.

That or just wait for coraline to cover the bottom. I have two BB tanks and there is no reflection now that they are covered. I would not paint the inside even if there is reef safe paint somewhere. Anything you move like rocks etc would probably peel the paint

Thank you!! I've never heard of this before - it is exactly what I wanted.

Thankies thanks! Happy Reefing!
