im building a new stand for my 90g. my 75 stand is ready to fall down anytime (manufactured made). i want to Paint it all black to match the tank trim and i just like black better than staind. i was Planning on wraPPing it in Plywood. what kind of Paint should i use and would it look ok on Plywood or should i use something nicer. this will be my first stand build. i was also going to use some kind of Primer inside and out to seal everything. thanks for any inPut!

I went black as well:

I used Kilz as my primer inside and out and used a black exterior latex as the finished coat. This was back in 2008 when the stand was built. If I were to do it today, I'd use the 98 cent flat black spray paint from HD.

I sanded mine back, gave it a few coats of primer then a few coats of cheap black spray paint. My paint chips and scratches really easily though. If I could do it again, I would use some kind of clear coat over the black, or a better quality black to start with.

What size is that tank and is that a refugium with a window for viewing? That's what I want to do with mine when I am able to start that project

It's a five foot custom 90 gallon tank with a 40 breeder sump....and yes, I purposely left out one of the panels on the custom doors to show off the sump. Since switching to biopellets, that sump will become a frag tank with one or two fish. And eventaully I'll build the cabinet on the side to hide all the electronics.

Awesome. Yea that's what I want to do with my future stand for my 180 I've been waiting to use. Make 2 doors that have cut outs in them so when they close you can see the refugium (which I'm building out of a 55) and eventually put some fish in it or seahorses. And do the cabinet to hide the power cords and keep them away from salt build up.
