I had a large 3-4 inch female alone in a 90 gallon, she was hosting 3 btas. I wanted to get her paired up for breeding so I bought a male that was 1> inch. The male had a run in with the female and did a submission dance, but she still continued to bite him. Now he's on the other side of the tank and refuses to go to the side with the female. The female doesn't bother him as long as he is not near her. I really want to get them paired up so I was thinking of putting him in a breeder box right next to the female, but most breeder boxes that are sold don't fit my tank so this is really a last resort. What do I do?

Female clownfish are very particular and a lot of them are much happier single living alone in their anemone. Try having a nice sit down conversation with her and tell her that you really really want her to get acquainted with the new fish. She may tell you that the new fish is an inferior specimen and not suitable for pairing, or worse yet she may tell you that the new fish is another female and they are never going to share the same anemone.

It has been a day later and they have paired! The female does not attack the male and all is well.
