Curious as to how non-Ocellaris / Percula Clowns are paired? Is it as easy as putting two juveniles / young males in or adding a smaller juvenile to an established female / transitioning female and they’ll bond?

I’m talking about the Skunk, Clarkii, Tomato, Saddleback, and Maroon complexes.

Clowns have a matriarchal society. A group of clowns may live together but only one is dominant and that is the female. Below her is the dominant male. Below them are other clowns which have a slim chance of challenging and beating the alphas. You can purchase a group of juvies and a dominant pair will naturally occur and you can remove the rest or keep them and create a harem. You can buy clown pairs with relative assurance from companies too. Stay clear of big names like live aquaria and others. Clowns pairs will occur between two juvies too as they change their sex as they get older. This may not work with other species of clowns like maroons, saddlebacks, and tomatoes however as they are just pretty aggressive. Skunks are pretty relaxed though. Be careful too. If you want tomatoes, maroons, or saddlebacks they will control your tank with an iron fin as testament to my old pair in my 110 gallon. I have since sold them as they bullied and harassed almost every new member of the tank. If you must have them keep them alone in their own tank or add them to a large tank and add them last.
