We've been having a lot of bad luck with fish this time around. :( Three weeks ago we bought a yellow clown goby, two weeks ago we bought a bi-color blenny. Both were placed in a 29G QT tank. The bi-color went pale, I wrongly assumed it was because it was sleeping (every time I saw it it was sleeping), and three days later passed away on Saturday. Today it looks like the clown goby's yellow is washed out, and it's spending more time hiding. It still comes out to chase down food and seems to be eating well, but given the Blenny's passing, I think this is something else. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Loss of color can sometime be a symptom of velvet. Hiding from the light too.

Doesn't velvet present as numerous tiny white dots though? I'm not seeing that on the goby and didn't on the blenny.

We don't always see the dusty coating of tiny spots with velvet. The parasite prefers to attack the within the gills many times. So we look for those other behaviors and symptoms from fish: difficult/rapid breathing, hiding from light, lethargy, color loss, rapid death, etc.

Interesting, I had no idea. I believe my wife sourced some CP from a LFS. The plan is to dose the tank with it tonight. Goby was still hiding today, but came out and ate really well at feeding time. Would a FW dip be too stressful at this point?

Usually a FW dip helps remove many, many of the parasites that are currently attached to the fish, especially within the gills, which helps the fish to breathe better, which helps their immune system to fight off the devastating effects of the parasites feeding upon them. But every treatment comes with risks. If a fish has a bad reaction and passes from a FW dip it probably would not have survived anyway.
