Hello everyone,
Might be a newbee question but do Paly Grandis corals wax and shed similar to leathers? I’ve got some in my reef and they’re closed up and appear shiny. Everyone else is open and thriving. Not worried, just curious.

Many thanks

Mmm normally they are open, have been closed for two days. Because everything else is acting normally I’m hoping it’s just them. After searching around, it looks like these mushrooms can occasionally close up. Only time will tell

Oops didn’t mean to say mushrooms. These are palythoa Grandis polyps

Sometimes they can get "grumpy" and will close up for no reason or like I said, something touched them.

I guess just make sure everything is ok and um wait. Not really much you can do.

Yup, I knew what ya meant.

We’ll after a little break. They finally shed and started to open up. two years into this hobby, staying calm and not overreacting is still difficult.

they will close up and the so called "waxing " will happen to the closed polyps. Most times from my experience is, the polyps get smaller due to poor water params or when they close up for a few days to week ,they usually have more small polyps grow out of the colony..
