Hi all, I’ve found these green and green/brownish Palys to be growing faster than any of my other zoas. Can anyone ID them? I don’t like the idea of having the super toxic species in my tank if that’s what they are and I’ve also heard they can get out of control if left unchecked. They’re at a point now where i can easily remove most of them my replacing the rock they’re on and possibly injecting the remaining few with vinegar or Joe’s juice. Before I go this route though I want to verify that it’s not a case of mistaken identity. The green one look decent, the more brown ones are pretty ugly

The green ones between your hammer and Zoas, I would definitely move those to a different spot. Most coral will loose the war with palys. Those speckled zoas are real nice, the paly will eventually crowd them out.

I just got a frogspawn I was thinking about putting where the orange zoas are in the hopes the hammer and it would keep the Palys contained. Would the Palys beat out Euphyllia?

Likely they would. Those palys are tough and can out compete most things. I'm still actively removing them whenever I see them pop up.

That’s what I was afraid of. What’s your removal technique? I was thinking of injecting them with vinegar a couple per day

It seems like the utter chaos next to it have the potential to take over as well, reading about some other people’s experiences. I think I might break that rock in half and put them on an island in the sand where they’re contained.

So the palys are the noxious type where you hear about paly toxin. Some people are sensitive to it. I just cut them out with a razor or scalpel. If you can remove or break the rock where they’re growing that works too. Make sure you wear eye protection, gloves, whatever. Whatever you do don’t try to grind them off the rock.

not sure injecting them with stuff will do much. You can always try kalk paste. But manual removal is probably best.

I would worry about the utter chaos over growing stuff. They’re solid growers but in my experience they won’t over take stony corals.
