I got these about a month ago in a trade. Started off with maybe 10-12 all about a dime size. They have exploded obviously and are now about the size of a quarter. They are brownish with a really nice green tint in the centers and on the tentacles. What are they?

I hate to bring you the bad news but those are potential pests. I've had them before and they can over run a tank in no time, once you have a ton of them they aren't that great to look at. I'd trade em off if possible for a different palys that are slower growing and more colorful.

I have to agree with Skinz78, that's a very fast growing paly that you'll eventually regret putting in your tank. I've seen a name of green button paly attached to it many years ago when I was starting this hobby.

DEFINITLEY agree... BUT.... you don't have to rid your tank of those guys... what I did was take about 30 of them and tightly glued them together on a spherical rock. Then I buried the rock by itself isolated in a corner of my reef. They look like a giant ball of polyps! And they won't grow past the sand...

Green Implosion Palys!! I beg to differ but they are a major PITA! Very invasive! When crowded they release themselves and float around til they find a new spot. This is coming from my personal experience with trying to remove them from ALL OVER my tank :(

See the tiny one under the Hammer? Who says they won't go past the sand?

LoL .... come to think of it... I have random ones too... my bad... KILL THEM ALL! jk. I like them because when they pop up different places it is quite wild

I had these...got em because they had a ricordea on the frag plug, but the ricordea came unglued and i have no clue where it is now....so i was left with these ugly brownish polyps which i just left in the back of my tank behind my rock and they started just growing off the plug on the sand.....so now theyve found a new home somewhere :)

glad i read this. I have a colony of these just starting to take off...couldn't decide if i want to kill them or keep them....time for some cutting :)

Do you mind me asking what did you trade for this button polyps?

I traded a sump for them but they weren't the only thing I got in trade. I also got a superman mushroom, some gsp, a purple mushroom, a red mushroom, a hairy mushroom and some pulsating Xenia. The polyps look really nice under my T5's, I hate that they can be a potential nuisance.
