Paly vs blue footed hermit

Thought this was interesting, anyone see a Paly with such an appetite? I think the crab had already passed.

Was it just the exoskeleton or the whole crab?? My hermits crawl around the palys all the time and they just close up in self defense.

It was probably a molt. I’ve had candy canes catch and eat molts but never a paly or zoa. Cool!

I think it was the whole crab, not just the exoskeleton. I bought a bunch of miscellaneous small hermits a week ago and noticed one or two had passed; as I saw one floating with no shell. My guess is it floated into it and the paly closed. Its funny, looks like the crab tried to crawl into it like a shell.

That sounds right! Those palys are basically a Venus fly trap for any food that might be floating by, I wonder if it even came close to being able to eat it?

Looks like its had its fill, it appears to be a little shorter, but still plenty of meat on the bone, haha
