I've got some Palys that are starting to take over a good section of my reef, what's the best way to remove them?

Very, very carefully. They can hurt you and kill your reef with palytoxin. Many are struggling with the same problem.

Removing and discarding the rock may be the best potential solution. These fast growing palys are typically high in toxins, which can be released during manual extraction from the rock. This can harm you and your reef inhabitants. If it were me I would try to eradicate these from my reef.

I can't really remove the rock, I'd call it a "structure" rock in a 30" tall tank just inches from the bottom.

I'm trying to remove mine very carefully an slowly. Only a few at a time and with as little trauma to them as possible to prevent the toxin release which you will see as a snotty slime. Not a good way but I don't know others. Aiptasia-x seems to not provoke slime release, but is also not very effective. I strongly recommend against trying to inject them with anything toxic to them such as vinegar. I almost destroyed my reef that way. I think of them as aiptaisia wired with explosives.

what type of palys????????

+1000, I had tons of Texas Trash growing all over my rock work and back glass. Long story short . I cut them all off and moved the rocks, anything with a skeleton died from the palytoxin. very very costly mistake!!!!!

you need a good skimmer in place, GFO, carbon, on hand for the task.

You could try blocking light from them maybe by covering them w some sort of thin rock as you say you cant move them or just scrape them off fragging them...

I currently have about 100-150 Texas trash palys residing in my tank. They are mostly confined to 2 LARGE rocks. I am going to start the long tedious process of fragging them off my rocks onto disks. I may bring them to a couple LFS and see if they will give me a store credit. If not I may ask them to display them and list them as free. They aren't a horrible looking coral, but unfortunately very invasive. I just can't see killing them.

Lol. They wouldn't hesitate to kill you ...

Seriously I would feel guilty trying to even give these away. They are like little terrorists. I disturbed some today cleaning the tank and my frogspawn closed up for hours.
