Does anyone have any information on palythoa Grandis? I picked some of these up a week ago and they seem very picky. I cant get them to open up all the way or sometimes even just open up. I have moved them a few times now.

Any basic care requirements or what you know about them in general would be great.

Do you have anything aggravating them?
Mine will close up if a hermit or snail bothers them.

I keep mine near the bottom and in low to medium flow areas. Like Helen said, they'll close anytime something bugs them.

Mine too are on the bottom in light flow and get medium light.

Pola, what kind of lights do you have? Can you post a pic of the tank and where they are?

They are closed almost 100% of the time. There arnt crabs constantly bothering it.

They are under AI hydra 52 lights. 20" deep tank, 10" above water, at 30% intensity. They are on the left side of the tank near the edge so the par is not super strong. They should be getting around 50 par. Its between the GPS and Xenia.

Will these guys eat if i direct feed them? Mysis? Fauna Marin Zoa food?

I've had some for years. Currently keep them on bottom and middle of tank. They get blasted with light and flow. They love mysis!

My guess is yours are acclimating. They'll adapt, just leave in one place.

I don't know PAR on bottom of tank but it's so high I'm unable to keep LPS? They bleach and die. I start my acros all on the bottom....just for reference.

I would give them a few more days, I also feed them at least once a week, sometime 2 ... I give mine mini mysis.

I've had mine a couple years and they went a few months where they weren't opening all the way. Then they suddenly decided something was better and now they open up big again.

Thanks guys. I will wait it out. Just pretty excited about these guys.

I keep mine in really low light and flow there almost tennis ball size, I good rule of thumb the bigger the paly the lower the light and flow then smaller the paly the higher light and flow, good luck there awesome

I like your tank! Looks awesome!

Any algae or nasties growing on it? These things are bulletproof, I can keep them in almost no light or under 400w halides. Light determines their pattern of color. Can you make sure they have flow so nothing can settle on it? Try rubbing off any film on it if it has any, dip it in a quick iodine bath.
