Is there a way to tell which zoa and paly carry the toxin so I can avoid them? I’ve had eagle eyes before and some brown colored Palys. The palys made me sick when I touched them so I’m going to avoid that color from now on but any others I should avoid?

Anecdotally its the eyelash looking tentacle palythoas that have the highest palytoxin. I do not touch those without gloves. Do not try to remove them manually.

Most all paly grandis (the big ones) have Palytoxin that can be an issue if messed with, most all zoas are fine. Yes there is a difference.

I know there’s a difference. Dads an aquatic vet and had warned me of the toxin but I didn’t think it would actually effect me. Main thing is my fish I’ll survive I just worry about them

I never really understood why it was never catalogued which ones where which. Snake poison is listed, why not palytoxin. I‘m sure they have looked into it for some type of scientific research at some point.

Anyway, I have had these in my tank 10+ years. All over rocks. I have never run into any issues, I don’t pull rocks out of water and handle them in open air, but I can grab them in water and get their slime on my hands with no ill affects. That is not to say people may have allergic reaction to them.

Of course it would effect YOU, NOT your fish. You have it backwards

That’s what I meant. If the toxin can’t effevt them in the water I don’t care. He just always told me to wear gloves and I thought he was takin nonsense.
Oh ok, no he is right about that. Plus you may have an allergic reaction to the corals themselves on top of the potential Toxin itself
