I have a 55 gallon setup with a wet/dry sump. It's been running for ~1-1/2 yrs. Substrate is crushed coral and have ~ 30lds. base rock. I do 20% water changes weekly with RO water. Water is stored in a Brute container. Inhabitants are 2 black perculas, 2 pajama cardinals, 1 snowflake eel, 1 yellow tang, 1 blue hippo tang, 1 flame angel, 1 lion fish plus cleanup crew. Last Sunday I introduced 1 emerald crab. Prior to the emerald introduction I noticed my blue hippo's color was getting washed out. Everyone else looked/acted healthy as can be.
I get home from work today and the yellow tang and Flame angle are dead. Hippo is very ashy and the lion's eyes are cloudy; clowns showing signs of little white dots all over. Everybody else looks ok so far. I quickly put the lion/hippo/clowns in a 10 gallon tank filled it with water from the 55g so the transfer wouldn't shock them too much; add copper safe and now I'm in a wait and see mode.
When I found the yellow tang it looked like it was asleep, only it was dead, clear eyes and all. No spots, no skin condition, no trauma. The Flame angel also had clear eyes, no spots but the fins were shredded/separated (in less than 24 hours).
So I'm guessing velvet has set in. My question is, should I isolate all the inhabitants in the 10g or let the ones with no signs of issues (eel/pajamas) ride it out? I can't keep all of them in a 10g tank. Immediate suggestions, as I've not had the time yet to fully research velvet and I'm in panic mode? Thanks.
