So large ice storm and power outage. Nothing new. However my brand new generator keeps shutting off after 20 secs. Something about carbon monoxide sensor needing service.

So here I am. 90g tank. No ETA on power coming on. Brand new generator not working. All stores closed.

We have one- You should be good 6-8 hours but if you have heat packs- Have them ready. You can wrap tank with blanket or moving blanket if you have one.
Always have a battery operated pump on hand in case generator runs out of fuel
The generator- assure exhaust isnt blocked , why it is faulting out

The only reason the generator would turn off automatically like that would be the temp rising too fast. Any way to check the fluids? Oil?

So, there is this trick you can do with a tractor to bypass the auto shut off, someone in the seat sensor. Is it possible to bypass the co2 sensor shutoff?
This was my first thought, bypass the sensor. Where is the generator located?

If you post the generator make and model, I will google it for you.
It's a predator 6500. Bummer is that this is the first time I've even used it and won't work.

Thanks to all the posts. I ended up making an hour and a half trip to my sister's and borrowed hers.

Just sucks that a brand new generator has this issue.

This has a flashing light on the side that indicates the carbon monoxide sensor needs servicing. It's a faulty safety thing that is preventing it from running. Starts first pull, all fluids good. Runs 20 secs and shuts off.

Seems like there’s plenty online on how to ‘fix’ this sensor. Good luck.

Didn't want to tear it apart as might be able to just warranty it. Customer service is closed for the night and will call in the morning.

Brand new generator has oil, right?

edit: Sorry just saw you said it has.

Moral - run the generator once a month to make sure it's working okay. Run a disaster scenario once a year to make sure you have all the cords and adaptors you need.

yikes. this is why i like big cities! most of the time the power doesnt turn off for more than an hour. knocking on wood so the power doesnt turn off for more than an hour
