That alwasy seems weird to me. Like getting a dog and thinking the it can always go to the animal shelter if it gets too big. Also if it comes to being to big there is a store in boca by my house called predatory fins that I'm sure would be happy to house him

But it's not a dog it's a fish ! And people dont send dogs to the animal shelter because they want them to be happier or have more room to live the best life they send them there because they dont want to take care of them . So if it happens it happens . Dont worry I wont develop a personal love bond with this fish like you obviously do with yours everything will be ok but its not a relevant comparison at all to reference a dog shelter .
Thanks for the post!! This may help those getting into the hobby or someone that doesn't know how big groupers fish get or how they will eat anything that can fit in there mouthAnyone else want to join the "reef tank me too movement " against me ?

I like what you wrote however I've read that a Panther grouper has a life span of about "20 years "There really is nothing wrong with rehoming a fish, think about it, all these fish brought in and over 98% die within the 1st year. In the wild fish rarely live in the same cave all their life. So if you are good fish keeper, if you do your research and have resources to rehome, there is nothing wrong with it. I live in Vegas with tons of hotel/casino tanks, resturant and bar tanks, estate homes with huge tanks; I have a plentiful source to rehome. With that said I likely could never find a home for a large panther grouper. They are a dime a dozen and people treat them as disposable. That's the sickness here and why some fish need to be left in the ocean. the lifespan of most of the panthers are around 1-1.5 years for varying reasons. Hopefully the next person researching the panther will find that it is a rare thing they find someone keeping a panther long term, huge tanks not withstanding.

In the wild. In peoples tanks 1-2 years. Because they don't know how to feed them or take care of them.I like what you wrote however I've read that a Panther grouper has a life span of about "20 years "

Well guess what ? Your government is doing the same thing to you , me , us. Oh well , its called the circle of life . And mankind playing God and it's been going on before any of us were even around . I buy fish because I like to have them around me and enjoy their beauty and care for them and they make me happy to see living things prospering and living happily under my care and I'm sure I'm far from the only one . I'm on a forum interacting with other fish keepers to share perspectives and knowledge but sadly the majority of members here aren't here to enlighten but more so to criticize, naysay, and point and wag their fingers at other fishkeepers/ hobbyists.Exactly what @Thales said, a fish that should live much more than a decade if not even more than 15 years, is killed by humans within a year or so because of inadequate care.
I cant wait until he grows big enoughPanther groupers are supposed to taste delicious although its not very sporting to catch it out of a tank vs the ocean.
