I'm setting up a new water change station since I have some extra room and I was thinking about using a Panworld 30PX pump to circulate and transfer water between the 2 drums. Then I got to thinking maybe instead of lugging buckets for larger changes I can just run a tube from the basement up the stairs and to the tank to refill. The actual distance is about 70 feet but the actual rise is about 9 feet (I have 7 foot ceilings in my basement then 2 feet to the top of the sump). my question is if I go with the 40PX pump at 13.5 ft max head pressure will the horizontal run have an effect on the head pressure calculation? I don't need a ton of flow at the tank but if i'm doing a 20G change I also don't want to sit there for an hour.

Its pushing the limit but should work. Id just make the pipes slightly larger in diameter i think this helps.

Do you think the 50 would be better? It has 3 extra feet to play with. I don't keep new salt water circulating after it's mixed so the 90 watts should be okay

Yes horizontal runs will impact head pressure You will also need to consider head pressure added from valves, unions and elbows in the plumbing schematic you have planned, also good to go a step up than you think you need.

That being said, panworld pumps are awesome! Supposedly the head engineer left Iwaki (legandary) to make panworld/blueline pumps.

I think you are going way too small for your application, I would probably look into a 150 or 200ps

For once a month water change I can't justify that size pump. 4 buckets isn't that bad lol.

excellent pumps go 150,happy reefing

Okay you guys talked me up, I went with a 100ps. If it can't make the run up the stairs and over to the tank I can expand the hole next to the the tank from an old cable wire run and do a water change through there. Literally 10 feet straight up since the drums are right underneath the tank. Let's see how this goes

good choice won't regret

The deal is done but is 700ish gph to much for salt mixing? Can there be to much? It's a 55g drum, I was thinking of putting an elbow at the return on the top to swirl the water around in the drum

75 feet of hose up a flight a stairs with zero issues. Pumps way more than my return can handle. Easiest water change I've ever done
