PAR for Squamosa clams

Im going to have to update my 40g lighting to something that helps my clam. The corals are doing great under the Finnex

I would honestly put the current led lights on the 40 and get a par reading at the bottom before switching.

If you can get 250-350 par on the bottom then I see no reason why you couldn't use them. Post some pics of that clam as well, we love pics!

@DSC reef - I'm looking at adding a blue Squamosa to my 250g (3 Radion G4 Pro's) and it's crazy to think that even at 100%, it would be difficult to reach 200-300 par at the sand bed (28" deep). I've been looking into changing my light setup to (2) Aquatic Life hybrids to add supplemental T5, so that might solve that problem haha.

Not 100% sure but that clam in the pic look more like a Maxima to me based on its mantel pattern. If that is the case it will need a lot more light than a Squamosa. Maybe others can help ID.

Have you look at just a kessil a360 Narrow angle for your clams? Pair with T5's makes a decent setup.

Would you recommend a mature tank or beginners is fine for a clam. I'm running a 40g with 10g sump with 1 hydra 52 HD. Running it at 60%. I'm sure it's more then powerful enough but just wondering bout the tank age.

Yeah.. That's not a squamosa pattern, those outer eyes and patterning tell much. If it's a maxima, I think it'd be to your advantage though, because your could place it high on the rocks to meet PAR requirements, and trust me, Maximas are light hungry.

I'D recommend a mature tank for a clam. Wait until the parameters are steady for a good 8 months.

Basically the research didn't find loss of mortality at 180 PAR vs higher PAR they just didn't grow as fast.

The schutes are the bigger ones consistent to a Squamosa.
