Hey guys,

Finally renting an Apogee Par meter.

I saw a similar thread recently with no response and was wondering, if I am using the apogee par meter, do I need to factor in a calibration factor? Also, I have a CBB and was planning on getting PAR values with the lights at 50% and at 100% both whites and blues at various depths/areas around the tank at regular intervals. I plan on doing this with both the powerheads etc on and off.

Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Thanks.

No, no calibration factor is needed with the current generation Apogee meters. Your plan sounds reasonable especially with a rental unit where you want to get as much value as possible. I'd suggest taking a photo of your tank, printing it, and then marking/numbering spots you want to measure light intensity at. You'll find that particularly with return pump and powerheads going, the reading at any particular location can fluctuate somewhat from moment to moment. The Apogee has the ability to record measurements, so you can quickly record, for example, 5 measurements at each location on your map, move on the next location, and average each set of measurements later.

Awesome thanks for the suggestion.
