Hello guys,

I would assume, that PAR levels decrease with dirty/wet lids over our tanks ?

A couple of people at a local fish store were talking about this subject, and both said it doesn't matter.

It almost has too, doesn't it ?

There's many examples, but look what happened when your car headlights get even a little,.... dirty.

I have my water a little high in one tank, and it gets water/bubbles and salt creep on the glass lids.
If I take the lid off one side of the tank (55g) and leave the other on, I have to crank up the light
on that side. You can really,....see the difference.

So, I want to ask people that have PAR meters to test with the lids off, perfectly clean lids then
covered with water and maybe, salt creep. The latter isn't important to me as I keep the creep off,
but it would be interesting anyway.

Yes, if your light has to go through a dirty glass the par results will be less rather than going through a clean glass. Just like he clarity in your tank. If your tank is cloudy then the par will be less than if your tank was clear.

bump ?

There has to be PAR tests from fellow aquarists on this subject.

There is really no way to accurately test. Are you talking about crystal clear glass tested within minutes of putting it on the tank? If so, then there won't be much of a par difference. It doesn't take long for glass to start losing clarity though due to salt spray, humidity, etc.

Yep, with no lid, wet with typical bubbles and creep. It should be too hard to test.
