Does anyone know the sweet spot for scollys? A recent purchase is starting to bleach. I had in what I considered a "shaded" spot. The par was less than 100. I've since moved them but I'd like to know if anyone has par readings where scolly's have been happy.

These are under an 8 bulb powermodule fixture. The fixture is new-so are the bulbs. The fixture is 12 inches off the top of the tank. I don't remember the height of the tank but its at least 21 inches. Three inch sand bed in the front.

This is where I've moved them to. You can see the bleaching on the War Paint (?) scolly.

Thanks for the help.

Erin

I don't know, but I do know that one of my local fish stores keeps their scoly's 12 inches below the 250w halides in their display.

Thanks Nemo. I'm looking for some input about long term sucess though. If people are keeping them under high par then maybe the lighting isn't the issue?

I don't think that's the issue. Mine has had them quite a while. At least 6 months. It could be in your special case though...

I am kind of a "special case",,, :)

Seriously though, if your LFS has had sucess under that type of lighting scenario...on the other hand the bulbs could be ancient.

Well he did have SPS growing fine and colorfully. He blasted everything with light. Even acans :(

aussie scollys are prone to bacterial infection. i keep mine in the top 3rd of my 55gal. I'd say about 6in from top under 4 65w pcs and 2 -110 vhos. they like a gentle flow.

Bacterial infections that cause them to bleach? without other signs of infection?

Miyag, what I should have said was "thank you for the information..." I realized thatmay have come across as rude after I re-read it. I don't think this is an infection though. I don't see any other signs of infection on the scolly just some bleaching.

no i just added that because i think they are harder to keep than people think. i keep mine high but my lights arnt that hot. as far as par sorry can't help never tested for it.
