When I first entered the hobby I was advised by my LFS to buy a bottle of Paraguard as a broad specturm cure. Since then I have been unsuccessful in finding any useful purpose for it.

Recently, I was able to find the MSDS for it and have identified Glutaraldehyde as its key ingredient. I guess this compound is used to sterilize surgical equipment and treat foot warts. I know in previous posts from back in the day @Humblefish and others were unable to definitively comment on paraguard effectiveness.

Now that we know the MSDS, is there any opinion on the efficacy of Gluaraldehyde as a replacement for formaldehyde? Is my Paraguard useful for anything but drain cleaner?

A quick search didn’t reveal anything useful regarding Glutaraldehyde as a fish medication. I personally have never had any success using Paraguard.

It's good if you want use malachite green. Other than that not sure what it is actually good for.
