Here are my parameters today, one day before weekly 20% water change. Nitrate- 5 amonia- 0 Mag-14.85 Calcium-470 phosphate-0 kh/Alk $7.0 PH- 8.15 Is this ok? Everything is pretty much same as last week besides kh/Alk was 7.3 and Calcium was 4.95. In the last week I added a 7 head candy cane cluster and thats my only LPS. I have no coraline algae yet so not sure how much Calcium my tank should be using if any. Thanks!

Calcium can be depleted due to the formation of coraline you can't see yet as well as via abiotic precipitation. Everything looks fine to me, save your phosphate. I'm assuming that 0 is due to the resolution of your test kit and not a real 0?

If your alkalinity continues to drop, you may either increase your water change schedule to meet demand or start dosing a product such as kalk or 2 part.

Thank you! I actually have the kalkwazer on order.

Gotchya- I find it extremely difficult to discern 0 from 0.03 on the salifert myself. As long as you don't bottom out your phosphate (such as now isntalling GFO or suddenly bringing a refugium/algae reactor online), I wouldn't make any large changes. There are concerns for corals and some less desirable organisms when your phosphate gets too low, but if all is working now, you now have room to feed your fish and/or any corals a bit more if you wished!

Thanks so much, glad to hear im on the right track! Ive really been conscious of over feeding . I recently started feeding my Zoas twice a week with reef roid but very lightly. And yes the test is acually hard to detect as it gets lower. I may see a vague blue tint, hard to tell and my eyes are not that great to begin with lol. With that being said I probably do have a bit of phosphate. Thanks again for your reply. I can breathe a bit now haha.
