A little confused when it comes to corals consuming alk , cal .
Upgraded to a 230 gal . Added old rocks plus more from old 90 gal .
added a fair bit of frags .
mostly sps , a few lps
I have been testing every evening since water change and getting the same numbers up until this evening .
Thursday evening was water change .
tested after water change
Sg 1.026
Alk 7:5
Cal 420

Friday and Saturday test results were the exact same
1.025 sg
7.5 alk
425 cal

I tested this evening and
Sg 1.024 ( ato filled sump after dripping new frags )
Cal 425
Alk 7.7

with the amount of corals in this tank I would assume it would consume something and need to dose

is this normal to not need to dose ?
is there something missing ?

Hello,
I had a similar behaviour when I moved all my sps to another tank.
I’m not sure if it is your case as well, but I cut all corals to new base... so my guess, by that time, was that the corals entered into a kind of ‘survival mode” or “hibernate mode”... for a few weeks.
But indeed, it was extremely minimal initial consumption, like almost nothing.
Let‘s see if there is any other similar reports.

If the corals are not growing for any reason, you won't see alkalinity decline.

Calcium declines are hard to see anyway, unless you monitor for a more extended period.

Also, there are other ways that alk may be boosted, such as declining nitrate, tap water for top off, slowly dissolving sand, etc.
