Paranoid about disease in QT

So I recently put a Dussumeri tang in QT and was noticing his breathing and looked a little fast. Do you guys see the same thing or am I just paranoid? Just QTing as a precaution with CP no visible diseases on him.

He seems a little agitated due to his confinements, which could explain the heavy breathing. Is the top open on the QT or are you using a lid?

An open top allows for more gas exchange i.e. more oxygen in the water.

Ok good. So it shouldn't be an oxygen issue. Also have ammonia alert tags on the aquarium.

He looks fine to me, perhaps the tank is a bit small for him but other than that I don’t think the breathing is nothing alarming.

I think my worse fears are materializing. I see him now swimming in the current of the whisper filter.

Assuming an environmental factor (e.g. ammonia) is not the issue, that heavy breathing is being caused by either velvet or flukes inside his gills.

How many days has he been in CP and where was the CP sourced from?

I have not had much luck when it comes to quarantine and tangs.The stress of a small tank seems to much for them. But putting one in the dt that has parasites is also bad.

IME; they do better in a 40 breeder QT (or bigger.) Even in a 20L/29 they tend to pace a lot.

He is in a 55 gallon. It will be two weeks and 1 day that he's been in the CP.

I removed him from the 55 gallon. Placed him in a 5 gallon bucket with QT water and did a 60 min acriflavin bath. Replaced his QT water with fresh seawater and added CP from a different source.

Today looking completely different. No scratching, breathing is much better and not hanging out in front of flow at all.

He is in a 55 gallon. It will be two weeks and 1 day that he's been in the CP.

If no flukes show during the FW dip, then that likely means he has external parasites and your CP is failing to eradicate the free swimmers. So, next step would be copper treatment.

I tried a different source of CP and I have a feeling that was the problem. I can't imagine the acriflavin bath helped him this much?

Where may I ask you got your CP from, my local vets offices won’t prescribe for me?

The first source I used was given to me from a friend who got it off eBay. The second source I ordered it from a vet supply online.
