Hey guys so I noticed this pine cone shaped clear open ended egg shell looking thing extending off some live rock up front. I have two giant Bali sand hares perhaps it’s an egg of theirs ? Thanks guys

Wow! Times like this really makes me appreciate the hobby! How freaking cool is that! You are exactly right it’s a pineapple sponge! Where else can you wake up one morning to find overnight a sponge has decided to just pop up out of nowhere! The tank is going on 6 months old rock was pre cured etc so cool to see this. I read some people can’t stand them but in a 220g I’m going to leave them alone. I have high nutrients due to trying the almost impossible predator reef tank. All my corals are thriving thanks again
 
Sponges are amazing little filters. Far more efficient than skimmers. I think realistically, the difference between the new tank that has all kinds of wild problems, and the "mature" tank that seems to be able to survive everything, is that the mature tank has a bajillion sponges hidden in the rocks.
