Parasite/Fluke? Sunset Anthias in QT

I’m 5 months into the hobby and doing my first quarantine. Is it obvious what parasite or other disease this is based on the pictures (see right side chin of fish)? If yes, any actions I should take?

It appeared overnight/this morning. Today is day 6 from the start of applying API’s Fin & Body Cure (Doxycylcine Hyclate); on day 5 (yesterday), I did a 25% WC and added carbon to begin removing the 4 day course of medication per the instructions. I assume the medication wouldn’t be related, but thought the timing made it noteworthy.

I can test other things like pH, Nitrite, Nitrate, and Phosphate if helpful.

Prazipro would be the medication of choice, if it's flukes.
At least (2) treatments, spaced 9 days apart, is what is recommended.

saying that, I'm not seeing much in the pictures.

It’s pretty clear in the 2nd picture. Looks like a big growth under the right eye on the side of the chin.

Either a bacterial infection or parasitic copeods but pic slightly fuzzy to confirm
For either. As long as fish isn’t distressed or breathing heavy, a 5 minute freshwater dip would dislodge the pod - IF ONE , and help determine if flukes
Using a clean and preferably dark container, add tap water the same temperature as display tank and add fish
Return to tank and look on bottom of container for what looks like sesame seeds or fish scales. If you can see that- those are flukes

Anthias fight by locking lips. is it possible its a lip/jaw injury?

Is this anthias in with any other fish? Was it caught up in a net recently? I’m thinking mechanical damage, parasites that large would not show up overnight.

May be a bacterial infection with swelling from an injury
seachem kanaplex or metroplex will be best bets for treatment in a separate quarantine setting

Yes to being with other fish; it’s with 3 other sunset anthias, a princess anthia and a tiny YWG. No to being caught in a net recently.

I did just do a water change and I typically move around and reorient the PVC pieces a little bit to get all the fish poop or food bits removed during WC. Perhaps the sunsets had to reset the hierarchy with the change of pvc-scape. I did notice the two most dominant anthias had some minor fish on fish damage and I assumed it was just a tiff between the two of them. But it seems this 3rd sunset which i have provided photos of may have also been involved the aggression.

I’ll assume it was fish aggression for now and watch carefully and separate if anything continues. (Or let me know if you would separate them now for this). And if it turns out this was some non-aggression related issue, I will update this thread.

I think I see what you mean - somewhat under the eye - the 'bump'. But every picture I look at I see something a little different.

Agree that doxycycline should have nothing to do with it. And - Since its a pretty broad spectrum antibiotic - I would not necessarily add any more antibiotic or a different type as long as the fish looks good - and is acting well. You could almost make the case to continue the doxycycline for a couple more days.

Injury or trauma makes the most sense - as others have already mentioned - good luck with your fish - hope this helps.

looks like jaw damage to me now that i see the newer pics. anthias can lock lips during a fight.

if necessary, you can get panels of egg crate at home depot. Easy to cut into several dividers that you can slip into your QT tank to separate several fish. $20 for a whole panel.

I'm QT'ing a couple anthias right now too. I have a panel of the eggcrate on hand just in case.
