parasite on peppermint shrimp!

Just got a bunch of inverts and a zoa from aquariumdepot and this peppermint shrimp had a looks to be isopod should I flush him?

Id like to see more detail on the hitchhiker if you can. The first pic is a little pixelated.

Not sure from the pictures but looks like a parasitic isopod. You may be able to remove the parasite without killing the shrimp

I would scrub that algae off. Maybe use a peroxide tank water dip too.

on the frag. Despite what you hear, the best way to keep algae out of a tank is not to keep nutrients low its to keep algae out.

wit till it opens a bit more and is less stressed and yo can use a Q tip and use full strength peroxide on just the plug. Peroxide is reef safe in low doses btw.

+1 on needing to get that algae off the frag. On new frags with algae, I have a designated algae toothbrush to scrub frags first before I put them in my QT. I also remove the coral from the frag before I dip, if I can. Safer that way. That isopod could've prob been removed with tweezers. I wouldn't introduce any pests into your home water sewage system. Escapees have been known to happen. Best to crush them & throw in trash.

Ever science I used the proxide none of the polyps have opened can proxide in anyway hurt them or anything in my tank? I only dabbed the qtip in the proxide for a second then cleaned the disc

They may be a bit grumpy. Hopefully you rinsed well.
And no it is reef safe.
You don't want to use full strength on the coral but a splash won't hurt. When I dip coral. I acclimate to coral to my water. Add peroxide. About 10to1 wait five minutes And rinse in my water. Usually you'll see bristle worms or pods float to the top.
Inspect the corals closely looking for egg spirals and algae.
Make sure you wash your hands well after handling zoas.

Def look up coral dips and handling zoas and the possible hitchikers that can come in on coral.

Exactly! It's not bad for some. Some react though and you do not want it in the eye.
