Toadstool has been up and down as it naturally does over the few months, but more so recently. Just noticed what looks like a bright green tentacle growing from the base. There is more algae accumulation on the toadstool and polyps are in. Parasite or self propagation?

Apologies - I don't see it. can you put an arrow on what you're asking about? I do not think they necessarily propagate that way. Curious - anything change in your tank - is there any change in your parameters, etc etc. Do you have other corals doing poorly? As you already stated this can sometimes be totally normal.

Other corals seem fine. I switched from ocean water to mix witching the last month. I have the whole system on an apex and trident system, completely stable. Here’s a better pic.

That COULD be a new bud. I was under the impression you meant a long thread like thing. what color are your ''tentacles' when the coral is extended - are they that color?

Hoping that’s the case. This is similar in color, but transparent green all the way through? Here is an old pic with the toadstool polyps out. Didn’t realize how few pics I have of it.

It looks like the most likely thing is a bud. Why its not opening is another story - is there another coral near it that could be bothering it - even at night?

Relieving to hear someone else thinks so as well! This toadstool opens and closes a few times a day. I have not been tracking it closely over the last few days, but did notice more algae. Will be paying more close attention now that it has this (hopefully) new bud on it. I have it in a pretty isolated corner of the tank, not any rude neighbors to agitate it.

if this helps - I had a toadstool - perhaps 2 feet across - just kept getting bigger. I decided to - cut it off - I wanted to go to SPS more. I took out the rock, scrubbed it, and put it back in. 6 months later - from 'whatever' - it started growing back.

lOOKS LIKE A TUNICATE TO ME WHICH IS CAPABLE OF STICKING TO LEATHERY SKIN.
Although they clone themselves, they usually are not cone shape and have fibers on them are are then released.

Example of toadstool buds:

I have not seen tunicates with that color. especially if the original toadstool has that color. Have you seen a tunicate attach to a toadstool - and is it 'a problem' - if so - cut it out?

PS - tunicates normally retract, etc when disturbed - if you touch that 'bud/thing' with something what is the response?

Under various lights, they appear as other coloration, mainly blue and pink
